My first campaign we did not use Free Archetype (fair enough since the rule didn't come out until we had a few levels in the box). But now we won't play without. It opens up a lot of options, but can be daunting to new players. Would perhaps hold off on it. Path builder let's you export a pdf of your character sheet so you can print it off. And it has options for free archetype. it's pretty awkward though because you can't erase it, so you'd need to print a new sheet every time you level up or get an item that changes stats.
